Constructor theory free#
This is a new physical theory that Deutsch proposed in order to incorporate into fundamental physics notions that have been notorious for being difficult or impossible to express using the prevailing conception of fundamental physics. An all-encompassing framework of physics could help to explain the evolution of consciousness, intelligence, and free will. Abstract Constructor theory seeks to express all fundamental scientic theories in terms of a dichotomy between possible and impossible physical transformations. She is now working as a postdoctoral researcher on a joint project with Deutsch, developing Constructor Theory.

After her master\'s degree at the Politecnico di Torino, where she worked on condensed-matter physics with Mario Rasetti, she speciliased in quantum theory of computation in a doctorate at Oxford, working with Artur Ekert and David Deutsch. I think it’s important to regard science not as an enterprise for the purpose of making predictions, but as an enterprise for the purpose of discovering what the world is really like, what is really there, how it behaves and why. In so doing, it expresses in an exact, scale-independent way what constraints. The standard laws of physics such as quantum theory, general relativity, even Newton’s laws are formulated in terms of trajectories of objects and what happens to them given some initial conditions. Constructor Theory is the newest GUTS (Grand Unified Theories) in theoretical physics. The constructor theory of information provides the base, among other things. Some principles of the theory are suggested and its potential for solving various prob lems and achieving various unifications is explored. At the heart of constructor theory is the feeling that there’s something missing in our usual approach to physics. It explains the relationship between classical and quantum information, and reveals the single, constructor-theoretic property underlying the most distinctive phenomena associated with the latter, including the lack of in-principle distinguishability of some states, the impossibility of cloning, the existence of pairs of variables that cannot simultaneously have sharp values, the fact that measurement processes can be both deterministic and unpredictable, the irreducible perturbation caused by measurement, and entanglement (locally inaccessible information).Ĭhiara Marletto is a quantum physicist at the University of Oxford and a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College. expecting constructor theory to be a fundamental branch of physics are discussed. It does not suffer from the circularity at the foundations of existing information theory (namely that information and distinguishability are each defined in terms of the other). Although it includes conjectured laws of physics that are directly about information, independently of the details of particular physical instantiations, it does not regard information as an a priori mathematical or logical concept, but as something whose nature and properties are determined by the laws of physics alone. We present a theory of information expressed solely in terms of which transformations of physical systems are possible and which are impossible - i.e.
